PLASTER PAINT - BEFORE & AFTER

Last week I finally found the time to do a half & half table to show the difference just one coat of Plaster Paint makes.

Plaster Paint requires no sanding or stripping.  All I did before painting this table was to wipe it down with a damp rag.  Here's a better shot of the top of the table.

Definitely in need of some love.  And here is the other side with one coat of paint.  Isn't it amazing how well it covers those cup rings, cracks & stains?!

My goal was to put it on lighter in area's to give it an aged appearance.  I used a 1" chip brush to put on my mixed base coat.  Once that was dry I used painters tape to create a grain sack style stripe. Then I used a clean 1" chip brush to apply Old Red and simply pulled off my tape before it was completely dry.

I mixed my paint because I didn't want a white and I didn't want toasted marshmallow so I just mixed them to create my own color & it turned out exactly how I wanted.

I did a quick pass or two with fine steel wool to make the top super smooth and then added a coat of paste wax to seal it.  This entire project literally took less than an hour if you count dry time.  Of course I only did half the table but you get the idea...this paint is super easy to use.

Plaster Paint is an affordable choice whether your a novice or a veteran painter.  We've been building/painting signs for a few years and all we use on our backgrounds is Plaster Paint because we love the finish that much.

Check out all the fabulous colors it has to offer.

Interested in trying it out for yourself?  Prices:  Quart $24, Pint $17 sample 8oz. $12 and a sample 4oz. is $8.

To give you an idea how far it goes we painted the background on this sign in Irish Clover and didn't even use 1/2 of a sample 4oz.

PLASTER PAINT PROJECT: Hello Kitty Sidetable

I ♥ when I find something via the web that inspires me to the point that I am excited to start a project.  Honestly, I'm always a little excited to get started on a new project but on this one I couldn't wait to get started and had so much fun painting Hello Kitty! LOL

Isn't it fun?!

We started with a very basic, beige laminate side table, not chic or cute in any sense of the word.

I used Plaster Paint in Jewel and painted two coats.  Then I used a yardstick/tape measure to draw a grid on top for my chevron pattern.

Need an easy to follow tutorial for creating a chevron pattern?  HERE!

Here's what it looked like after I had my chevron pattern taped off & painted in.  TIP:  Pull off your tape before your paint dries & use the green frog tape.

For the chevron pattern I used Plaster Paint in Ivory Lace.

I searched the web and found the same silhouette my inspiration had used and transferred that image on top of my side table using the pencil method.

Then just filled it in with Plaster Paint in Black Tie and some simple acrylic red & yellow.  My side table also had a middle shelf so I typed out the words, "Get your NERD on!" and added that to the shelf.

Here's my finished project.

We found the cute little crystal heart knob at Hobby Lobby.  ♥ that place!

My inspiration came from Shabby Loco & you can check out her cute little table here!

PLASTER PAINT PROJECT: Toasted Marshmallow & Espresso

I've slowly been trying to do projects using Plaster Paint colors but lately I've done more signs than anything so furniture has kinda been on the back burner.  I finally got around to doing these side tables. Take a look at the before.

And a close-up of the top.

Both tops were pretty rough so we sanded them down to raw wood.  Next I painted on the buck heads with Plaster Paint Espresso and after it was dry (about 5 minutes) I glazed & sealed them.

For the bottom half of the tables I used Plaster Paint in Toasted Marshmallow.  I did a quick coat of paint, distressed with a wet rag and sealed with clear wax.

I couldn't be happier with how well this paint distresses.

If you haven't already, then you really should give Plaster Paint a try.  Click HERE to try it out!

CUSTOM ENTERTAINMENT CENTER - PLASTER PAINT

I'm loving the trend of old dressers turned entertainment centers.

This is what it looked like before its makeover as it sat tucked away in our garage.

I've had it stashed in the back because I knew I wanted this one for me.  I loved the curves and it was built really well.  But...

I've noticed that when I put something away for myself that it always seem to find its way to someone else's home! Oh well, this was for a fellow firefighter, who just happened to be in our wedding,  and he has a sweet family so its all good. Here's a few shots of this dresser during its makeover.

Step 1:  Remove top drawers & build the shelf for components.

Step 2:  Sand, paint & seal component area.  (Don't forget to drill your hole for wires.)

Step 3:  Distress, glaze & seal.  (For added durability, always seal your project.)

Step 6:  Adding personalized typography. (My favorite part!)

This makeover was done 100% with PLASTER PAINT!  Have you heard of it yet?  It's not chalk paint or milk paint -- it's plaster paint and for the price I don't think I'll be using anything else from here on out.

DRESSER TURNED PLASTER PAINT DISPLAY CASE

I love the bones of this dresser and how the front was the perfect canvas for a logo, however we needed more storage space if we were going to use this for our paint display.

Lucky for me I married quite the handyman, so he built a hutch.

* Sorry for the quality of the pictures in this post,  my camera phone is terrible & I was too lazy to grab the real one! *

We thought about putting crown molding around the top, but decided to use the molding that matched the dresser that we ripped off the headboard that matched the dresser.  Follow me?  LOL

I won't bore you with lots of in between pictures.  Here's how it turned out.

We used a quart of BLACK TIE for this project and still had paint left over.  (The back is painted as well.)

I ♥ how we can store paint brushes, paint inventory & other paperwork in the drawers.  We are working on a couple of other small pieces of furniture to display other colors in the paint line & hopefully I can share those soon.

There are color samples at the Brocante Market if you are interested in seeing the colors up close.   We will also have the new color EDEN soon!

Brocante Market - 101 W Rogers Blvd, Skiatook, OK.
